Garlic Alfredo Pizza (Gluten-free, Vegan)

3 words. Garlic Alfredo Pizza. Do you know what happens when you bake up my garlic alfredo sauce?? It forms a nice “cheesy” firm crust. SO GOOD. The only thing better than garlic alfredo pizza, is garlic alfredo pizza served with more garlic alfredo dipping sauce.

With my most popular savory recipe on my blog being my Garlic Alfredo Sauce, I have been itching to repurpose it in another way, than just on pasta. This. Is. It. Do you know what’s so amazing about this sauce? When it bakes up in the oven, it bakes up like a cheese, forming a nice firm cheesy crust, yet when you bite into it, it is silky and saucy underneath. SO good.

The smells alone while it is baking will have you salivating.

By the way, did you know it was National Pizza Day this past Saturday? While I may be a couple days late in posting a pizza recipe, I think  you will forgive me after you make this. I hope so anyways! I shared my photo on Instagram on that day and many are eagerly awaiting the recipe. Well, it’s super easy utilizing my alfredo sauce.

My alltime favorite pizza flavor before adopting a plant based lifestyle was a garlic white sauce style pizza that my hubby and I would get at a local pizza place. It was nothing but a white garlicky sauce and crust, nothing more. It was perfect though. When a sauce is flavorful enough, you don’t need 20 toppings. In fact, I have never liked more than 3 toppings anyways. I mean, think about one of the most popular pizzas around the world, the Margherita pizza, which only has sauce, cheese and basil.

If you are one of the many to have tried my garlic alfredo sauce, then you gotta try this and let me know what you think! I have gotten countless reviews from you guys all saying how much you loved it more than any others you’ve tried, including non vegan versions. You even converted a few non-believers to asking for the recipe! It has made my heart super happy to hear all the wonderful reviews you have left on my blog. What’s not to love when you can have a really rich alfredo sauce for a fraction of the fat of traditional and it be oil-free as well?!

Look how the sauce bakes up to form a firm “cheesy” crust. SO GOOD.

Making a homemade pizza crust couldn’t be any easier! Especially using a store-bought mix, which I did. I normally make all my own blends, but wanted this to be easy and have been curious as to how a storebought mix would work. I bought Bob’s Red Mill Gluten-free Pizza Crust and it turned out awesome. It was incredibly easy, but if you don’t feel like fooling with it, just buy your desired premade pizza crust.

All you do is follow the back of the package instructions and there is only a 20 minute rise time. I used flaxseed instead of actual eggs, of course, and it worked perfectly. Just mix the ingredients, cover with parchment, spread out with your hands to the edges, trace around the edges to cut off the uneven pieces (totally my own added step) to make it pretty and prebake before spreading on the garlic alfredo sauce. After you prebake it, spread around the sauce and bake as is, or add any toppings you like. I only added red pepper flakes because quite honestly, I don’t like a lot of toppings and the sauce is SO flavorful, I didn’t want toppings competing with it. After I removed the baked pizza, I then waited a few minutes and then added basil. I did it more for looks, not for taste, as it didn’t need it.

Straight out of the oven. YUM. I was skeptical how the crust would work because it is insanely sticky and annoying, but it bakes up, holds perfectly and tasted great. It is not 100% like a traditional flour crust from a pizza shop, but it was good nonetheless and worked wonderfully. I would totally make it again. Only thing I would do differently is use less of the dough to make a thinner crust. I prefer less dough and more of the sauce to come through.

I hope you enjoy this Vegan Gluten-free Garlic Alfredo Pizza and come back here and leave me feedback after you make them. You can also tag me on Instagram with hashtag #thevegan8 and using @thevegan8 so I don’t miss it!

This sounds incredible! I haven’t tried any vegan alfredo sauces yet, but I absolutely love white sauce on pizza. Can’t wait to give this a taste!

Spinach sounds great Suzanne! This is a great pizza sauce to add whatever you like, alone, or add toppings! Pizza is definitely a personal taste thing as to what we love most, and one thing is for sure, this alfredo sauce is rich and does NOT taste like a healthy pizza at all!

Everything looks awesome but you didn’t mention my favorite part? All those glorious red pepper flakes you’ve got sprinkled on.
We had pizza at a restaurant over the weekend and they couldn’t do their gluten free crust without any cheese cause that’s they way they come in (not real fresh I’m guessing) and then the only toppings I could get were green peppers. Of course they put way too many on cause I was paying $1.50 for them right?
Anyway, I love pizza so much it was okay but this one looks much better . We’ve been grilling homemade pizzas lately and it works so well if you like a thin crust like this. I’ll have to give Bob’s a try too. And that sauce of course. Maybe some of my cauliflower sausage?
    Mmmmmmm ;0

I learn so much from you each time I come to your blog :)!
I didn’t know what the nutritional yeast was and I googled it: hopefully I can find it! I have never had an Alfredo pizza! I think it is and American version 🙂 but I would be very curious to taste it! It sounds so good!
Can I please ask you what do you mean when you say that you used flaxi seeds instead of aggs?
    Grazie mille!!!

Thank you Ema, you are so sweet! Oh, it is SO good..it is basically a thick, indulgent tasting creamy sauce that is traditionally very unhealthy and filled with butter, cheese and milk. Of course, my version tastes just as rich without all the awful ingredients! Nutritional yeast helps to give a cheesy flavor and is a wonderful flavor addition to dishes, I’m obsessed with it.
Flax eggs is a vegan substitute for eggs, which is basically ground flaxseed mixed with water. To equal one egg, you use 1 tablespoon ground flaxseed mixed with 3 tablespoons warm water and whisk really well with a fork. Set aside for 5-10 minutes, whisk again and it thickens and gels up like an egg! 🙂

I think it is basically what I have done with the chia seeds for the pancakes :)!
Wow! I’m learning so much from you :)!
I have to find the nutritional yeast then :)!!!

Oh my word, this was absolutely incredible as a pizza sauce! We topped the pizza with sauteed portobellos and, after, baking, rocket leaves for a bit of green. It felt indulgent, but not heavy, and all the flavours were wonderfully umami! This made enough for one pizza and a large bowl of pasta to take into work for lunch. Will definitely be looking to make again down the line!

Hi Chris! I think so, it just may have a stronger cashew flavor but should be fairly masked by the lemon juice. Also, eliminate the salt in the recipe and taste it at the end of blending and add salt if necessary. Let me know how it turns out please!

I made this dish with the roasted cashews with sea salt (as opposed to raw) and they certainly didn’t ruin the dish; no one thought it tasted like cashews. I really, really enjoyed this recipe- it was SO good especially after the first day once the sauce had time to really come together (leftovers were the best; I’m sad they’re gone!). My mom and dad both liked it and they’re certainly not people that think they like healthy or vegan foods; they were quite skeptical before they tried it (my dad especially loved it!). I’ll definitely make this again- thank you for sharing such a healthy, delicious vegan recipe! And thanks for the quick feedback about using roasted cashews!!
One comment on it- I didn’t really think it was all that similar to alfredo sauce (maybe that’s just me) so just as a heads up to anyone going to make it, I thought it was very good but not really like alfredo sauce.

I’m so glad you loved this so much Chris! Thank you so much for the feedback! The roasted cashews have a strong cashew flavor, so that may have slightly altered the alfredo sauce flavor for you, which I why I specify raw. I don’t like the strong flavor of roasted as they can overpower the other flavors. You are the first person to mention that out of 100’s of reviews I’ve received, so I would try raw cashews next time and see what you think. 🙂 This version is about as close as you can get to the taste of traditional and since there is no butter, cream or cheese in it, it’s of course going to be slightly different, but super rich and very similar. Thanks again and so glad you enjoyed it!

I absolutely love this pizza! One thing though is that i couldn’t find how long it should bake with the Alfredo sauce on it. And i used a different ready-to-go pizza dough and didn’t know what time it should be in the oven without sauce and with sauce so the crust got a bit dry. But, still very very nice! Thanks!!
