This Vegan Barbecue Chicken Pizza is a showstopper for pizza lovers! The flavors are incredible, the ingredients are homemade, including homemade mozzarella and it’s so easy to make!
VEGAN BBQ CHICKEN PIZZA
This pizza is so delicious, it is on repeat. I use my homemade flatbread, pizza sauce, mozzarella cheese, spinach, Italian seasoning, Texas BBQ sauce and a vegan chicken. I used the brand Daring. It has minimal ingredients and is so delicious!
I have to be honest, too, I am always eating my pizzas on flatbread now. It is so much more tasty and easy than making a full pizza crust in my opinion, not to mention, the size is perfect personal size.
INGREDIENTS NEEDED
- Flatbread or Naan: I used my homemade flatbread, but you can use store-bought too. My homemade recipe is really quick, easy to make and also oil-free.
- Pizza sauce: I used my homemade, it is so much better than store-bought and only takes 5 minutes to make. It’s been a reader favorite for years.
- Vegan mozzarella cheese: Use either my homemade recipe or store-bought. Just know that homemade drizzles and covers the toppings better.
- Bell pepper: I love the pop of color from the red and the flavor better, but use any kind you like.
- BBQ sauce: I used my Texas BBQ Sauce because it is incredible, but store-bought is fine.
- Vegan chicken: I used the vegan Daring frozen chicken pieces for this pizza, the cajun flavor. The texture of this chicken is incredible and so authentic. They are DELICIOUS. If you don’t want to use vegan chicken, I totally understand, a great sub would be my smoky tofu! I’ve also made that on pizza and it’s so delicious!
HOW TO MAKE VEGAN BBQ CHICKEN PIZZA
If using my homemade flatbread, vegan mozzarella cheese, pizza sauce and barbecue sauce, then go ahead and make those so they are on hand for anytime you want to make these quick pizzas.
Keep in mind, I did not measure any of the topping ingredients, I just eyeballed everything, as I think it’s pretty self-explanatory, visually, how much you want to add on your pizza.
Set the chicken out for a few minutes to thaw and soften some and then cut them into smaller bite size pieces for the pizza.
To assemble, spread some pizza sauce onto the cooked flatbread.
Layer a large handful of spinach on the sauce, followed by the chopped bell pepper, and chopped chicken pieces.
Drizzle the mozzarella over the top of the ingredients, using as much as desired. To make it more easy to drizzle, if needed/desired, add a touch more broth to the cheese when making and use it right away after blending.
As you can see in the photo, I made mine more runny so it was easier to drizzle. But you can totally just dollop if on if preferred.
Lastly, sprinkle some Italian seasoning all over the top.
Bake at 400F° for 8-10 minutes until crispy and the cheese is looking firm.
After it comes out of the oven, drizzle bbq sauce all over. I forgot to take a picture of it when I did that because I was so hungry, haha.

If you are truly vegan, why do you want to make something taste like meat? That feels vulgar and hypocritical to me. If eating an animal it’s not for you, then so should pretending to eat an animal. Something to think about.
This question gets SO old for vegans. Many of us are vegan not because we didn’t like the taste of meat, but for health reasons or we don’t want to contribute to the harm of animals. I grew up in Texas eating meat. I went vegan to help cure my ex-husband’s gout. I didn’t go vegan because I didn’t like meat. But, ethically, I also will never eat an animal again. These chicken pieces are made of soy, I know very well they are not an animal, so it’s not even comparable because I know I’m not contributing to animal suffering anymore. Not to mention, these types of recipes help non-vegans transition better. However, if it’s an issue, subbing with my smoky tofu would also be delicious here. https://thevegan8.com/the-best-smoked-tofu/
What a great response! I agree, the question gets old. Why even ask if not to start an argument? I also went vegan for health reasons, but now also strongly feel that there’s no reason you would ever need to harm an animal to enjoy the taste of meat because there are meat replacement options that are so much kinder and taste super close to the real thing!
I also had to switch to vegan lifestyle due to health reasons and I am so happy thevegan8 offers recipe alternatives because I do miss cheese so very much! Thank you
Thank you so much!
Brandi, I discovered whole food plant based eating 4 years ago to loose weight and lower my blood pressure. As you said, for health reasons. I too wondered (slightly) about the concept of making recipes that “replaced” meat. Well, I loved meat (and eggs), so I understood pretty quickly. Also, once you go plant based and loose weight quickly, have a ton of energy, and realize how great it makes you feel, you start to think about the awful treatment of animals and the fact that they are not needed in the human diet. So that reinforces your decision even more. First you KNOW it contributes nothing to excellent health, but actually contributes to poor health – and weight gain again. Then 2nd you not contributing to animal cruelty.
I was going through your recipes this morning and reading all the wonderful comments from your loyal followers. Then I came upon this comment from Craig. Your reply was spot on – honest, factual AND kind. Thank you for that. One of the things that I realized after going WFPB, is that although everyone says you look amazing and asks how you lost weight, your answer is not what they want to hear! My overeweight friends and relatives “could never give up meat”. So it’s no surprise that a meat eater, thinks as Craig does. I just don’t understand why he took the time to comment. AND his comment was NOT kind. It was arrogant and judgemental. I think if I were him, I would have first done a little research to educate myself. Had he done that perhaps he would have taken the higher road.
Thank you so much Evangeline! Yeah, I’ve seen this comment so many times and it is worn out, haha. I liked eating meat and the taste and texture of it growing up, that’s a fact. But knowing what those animals are put through made me never want to eat them again. But I still love chewy meaty textures and soy is fantastic for that! Thanks for taking the time to comment! xx
